Omega 3, DHA and EPA

Omega 3, DHA and EPA Fatty acids are the basic molecules from which a large part of the fats in our diet are formed and are characterized by being formed by several carbon atoms linked together by chemical bonds that can be simple or double.

Types of fats

Saturated (eg butter): Fatty acids whose carbon bonds are single bonds
Monounsaturated (eg olive oil): There is only one double bond in the molecule that forms the fat
Polyunsaturated (eg fish oil): there are two or more double bonds

Within the polyunsaturated fats we will find the omega-3, omega-6, omega-7 ... ... where the number only refers to the position where the first carbon with double bond.

The fatty acids we ingest become part of the cell membrane, an excess of saturated fats will result in a rigid membrane while the polyunsaturated fats will form a more fluid membrane that facilitates a better function of the cell.

Types of Omega 3

Omega 3 terrestrial: or also called Linolenic Acid (ALA) whose benefits are centered at the cardiovascular level. We can find this fatty acid in some vegetables, seeds and nuts

Omega 3 marine: known as EPA and DHA, whose benefits focus on cardiovascular, neurological, visual, inflammatory processes, fertility, etc ...

In omega-3 supplements it will be important to know how much omega-3 each tablet provides, since the more "empty fats" that accompany the lower omega-3 fraction will be the latter's performance in the body.

EPA in children and pregnant women

One of the fatty acids commonly found in mother-to-be milks is arachidonic acid (AA), a very important omega-6 fat needed for example in brain formation.

When there is an excess of AA, consumption of Omega-3 EPA is able to dilute the presence of AA in the cell membranes, which is why it is advised against EPA consumption in pregnant women and children under 6 years.

Nua Laboratories knowledgeable of this has developed separate DHA and EPA omega-3 supplements. With a high concentration of omega-3 per pearl, without fish protein, lactose or gluten, without saturated or trans fat, without cholesterol, Vit. A or D.
